هذه رسالة في الحب والبغض، وبيان الممدوح والمذموم منهما، وبيان الضوابط الشرعية للحب الصحيح. سطرتها يراعة شيخ الإسلام ابن تيمية، بأسلوبه الماتع، وعبارته السيالة الجزلة. ولأهميتها وللمكانة العلمية الهامة التي يتمتع بها مصنفها بين علماء المسلمين عني بتحقيقها، وبإخراجها للناس من زمن ضاعت فيه الحقائق، وانقلبت الموازين، وتغيرت المعايير، أصبح الباطل حقاً، والحق باطل.
وبالرجوع إلى عمل المحقق نجد أنه يتجلى بـ: أولاً: وضع مقدمة مسهبة دوّن فيها نبذة عن حياة "ابن تيمية" ومؤلفاته ومنهجه؛ هذا في الفصل الأول، أما الفصل الثاني فخصصه للحديث عن حبّ الله تعالى، معناه، شروط الحب الصحيح، علامة الحب الصادق، الأسباب الجالبة لمحبة الله للعبد ولمحبة العبد لله تعالى. ثانياً: خرج آيات الرسالة، وأحاديثها والآثار الواردة فيها، ثالثاً: علق على النص بما يحتاج إليه من توضيح وتفسير وبيان، رابعاً: ترجم لبعض الأعلام الذين قد يخفون على القارئ، خامساً: نسب الأقوال إلى قائليها، سادساً: وضع فهرسة لأحاديث الرسالة، وآثارها، وموضوعاتها.
