كان لصاحب هذه السيرة، برهان الدين باش أعيان، سجلّ حافل في العمل الدبلوماسي، وفي النضال السياسي والوطني في العراق، والقومي العربي، منذ مطلع شبابه وتخرّجه من كلّيّة الحقوق في بغداد عام 1937، حتّى مغادرته العراق عام 1962. وقد اشتهر طيلة حياته بنشاطاته المتواصلة في مجالات العمل الخيري والإصلاحي الاجتماعي والعلمي، في العراق وسائر البلاد العربيّة والإسلاميّة.
يعرّف الكاتب بالعوامل التكوينيّة والظروف البيئيّة التي رافقت ولادة صاحب السيرة ونشأته، متناولاً جوانب واسعة منها تاريخ أسرته وتاريخ المنطقة خلال الفترة المحيطة بولادته وحياته.
يؤرّخ هذا الكتاب للأحداث السياسيّة والاجتماعيّة التي شهدها وتعامل معها صاحب السيرة وأسرته خلال الفترة التي عاصرها في حياته، ومنها معلومات جديدة ذات دلالة، تنشر للمرّة الأولى عن التاريخ المعاصر للعراق والمنطقة.
