يعد كتاب "منهاج الوصول إلى علم الأصول" للبيضاوي من أهم متون الأصول عند الشافعية، حيث ذكر فيه المصنف مسائل في علم الأصول، فبحث في حد أصول الفقه وفي السنة، وفي الإجماع والقياس، وفي الدلائل التي اختلف فيها وفي التعادل والتراجيح وفي الاجتهاد والإفتاء.
وهذا الكتاب مع صغر حجمه ووجازة نظمه جاء حاوياً لمنتخب كل مديد وبسيط، واف بتمهيد أركان الأصول الشرعية، كان في تشييد مباني القواعد الفرعية، مشتمل على زبدة مطالب هي نتائج أنظار المتقدمين، محتوياً على نخب مباحث درر أفكار المتأخرين. غير أنه جاء محتوياً على خفايا لم تكشف عن وجوهها الستار، وبالتالي جاء محتاجاً إلى شروحات تحل عقد عويصاته الأبية. ولهذا كثرت عناية العلماء به شرحاً وتخريجاً لأحاديثه.
والكتاب الذي بين يدينا يجمع شرحين من شروحه: الأول شرح البدخشي "مناهج العقول". ويتميز هذا الشرح بإصلاح مواقع في الكتاب المتن طعن فيها الجارحون، وأشار إلى ما وقع للمصنف من السهود التساهل، وما عرض للشارحين من الخطأ للغفلة أو التغافل، وأودعه فوائد ملتقطة من كتب العلماء المتقدمين، ولطائف أبحاث وقع عليها، وغرائب أسرار أبدعتها قوة فكره.
أما الشرح الثاني فجاء تحت عنوان "نهاية السول" وهو للآسنوي. وتميز هذا الشرح عن غيره أولاً: بذكر ما يرد عليه من الأسئلة التي لا جواب عنها أو عنها جواب ضعيف، ثانياً: التنبيه على ما وقع فيه المتن من الغلط في النقل، ثالثاً: تبيان مذهب الشافعي بخصوصه ليعرف الشافعي مذهب إمامه في الأصول. رابعاً: ذكر فائدة القاعدة من فروع مذهب الشافعية، خامساً: التنبيه على المواضع التي خالف المصنف فيها كلام الإمام أو كلام الآحدي أو كلام ابن الحاجب، سادساً: التنبيه على كثير مما وقع فيه الشارحون من التقريرات التي ليست مطابقة الخ.
