يعود كتاب (كليلة ودمنة) إلى أكثر من 1500 سنة، وهو مجموعة حكايات تدور معظمها على ألسنة الحيوانات، وقد ألقها الفيلسوف الهندي بيدبا بهدف نصح ملك الهند دبشليم الظالم ورده إلى العدل والإنصاف، كان عنوان المجموعة قبل أن يترجمها ابن المقفع إلى العربية "الفصول الخمسة" وهي نقلت أولاً من الهندية إلى الفهلوية (الفارسية القديمة)، وفي منتصف القرن الثاني الهجري نقلها ابن المقفع إلى العربية، وأسماها "كليلة ودمنة" (وهما حيوانان من الفصيلة الكلبية أصغر حجماً من الذئب). يقال إن ابن المقفع لم يترجم النصوص حرفياً، بل بث من خلالها آراءه السياسية، مما أدى الخليفة العباسي المنصور إلى قتله.
إن هدف نشر هذه السلسلة هي إحياء جزء من تراثنا الأدبي وتقديمه في صورة معاصرة إلى أطفالنا اليوم.
