وها نحن اليوم إزاء كتاب تاريخي لهذا الألمعي، تهش الأفكار إلى ما حوى من فوائد، ويثني عليه لسان الزمان، وتفرح بإخراجه جزيرة العرب، وتتغنى به مطوقات التاريخ تتلو من فوائد صحفاً.
وبالعودة لمتن الكتاب نجده يسلط الضوء التاريخ على جزء من جزيرة العرب "بلدان حضر موت" ويرسم بخطوط براعته لوحات ناطقة لناحية كانت قبل مهد الملوك من غابر الأزمان، ومنبتاً لعلماء وحكماء وحكام وأمراء، وما يزيد الكتاب أهمية: إنه يترجم الأعلام وعلماء ساهموا في بناء الفكر الإسلامي، بل وامتدت رقعته، فحظوا بشرف الدعوة إلى الله بالحكمة والموعظة الحسنة، وتبيان محاسن الإسلام والتطبيق الفعلي لأحكامه، وآدابه، فهدى الله بهم من جنوب شرق آسيا خلائق لا تحصى.
ولموقع هذا الكتاب وعظيم نفعه فقد اعتنى محمد أبو بكر عبد الله باذيب بتحقيقه حيث اهتم أولاً: بنسج المخطوطات التي بين يديه، ثانياً: بترصيع الكلمات بالحركات الإعرابية المناسبة، ثالثاً: بتخريج أحاديث الكتاب وعزوها إلى مظانها في دواوين السنة المطهرة، رابعاً: بتخريج معظم النصوص الشعرية مع ذكر بحرها، وبضبط الشعر العاني الحضرمي كما ينطق به وكذلك أسماء المدن والأعلام، خامساً: بشرح الكلمات الغامضة وبصنع الفهارس الخاصة التي تغنى به، وهي فهرس الأعلام أي ذكرها المؤلف وترجم لها في طيات الكتاب، فهرس ألفبائي للمواضع التي ذكرت في الكتاب، فهرس موضوعات للكتاب.
