عُرف المجتمع، بأنه كيان جماعي من البشر، بينهم شبكة من التفاعلات والعلاقات الدائمة والمستقرة نسبياً، تسمح باستمرار هذا الكيان وبقائه وتجدده في الزمان والمكان. والمجتمع الكوردي، كأي مجتمع بشري يتكون من مجموعة من الأفراد يرتبطون ببعضهم البعض، مما يجعل منهم كياناً وليس مجرد حشد من الأفراد المتفرقين، وقد أولى الدكتور طاهر حسوس الزيباري مجتمعه الكردي بدراسات عديدة، آثر جمعها في كتاب تحت عنوان (دراسات في المجتمع الكوردي المعاصر) وهو يطمح من وراء ذلك إلى أن يقدم تحليلاً إجتماعياً وسياسياً ومنهجياً لبعض قضايا وخصائص المجتمع الكوردي، ويسعى لأن يكون كتابه مرجعاً علمياً للمهتمين بشؤون هذا المجتمع.
ما يميز الكتاب أنه مُنظم في إطار فكري بحيث تتصل أجزاءه فيما بينها، ويعبر عن النسق الفكري لعلم الإجتماع، وعلى نحو منظم مبتدأ بالنظرية والمنهج باعتبارهما يمثلان أحد أهداف علم الإجتماع بجانبه النظري والعملي في آن معاً.
وبالإستناد إلى ما تقدم يجمع هذا الكتاب سبع دراسات للمؤلف جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: 1- التنشئة السياسية الإجتماعية في كوردستان – العراق (دراسة ميدانية)، 2- دور وسائل الإعلام في تنمية الوعي السياسي والمشاركة السياسية لدى الشباب الجامعي (دراسة ميدانية)، 3- الوعي المروري واثره في تقليل حوادث المرور (دراسة ميدانية)، 4- التكيّف الإجتماعي لمهاجري كركوك (دراسة ميدانية)، 5- إتجاهات التحضر في مدينة دهوك، 6- الخصائص الديموغرافية لمدينة أربيل، 7- واقع الإسكان الحضري في العراق.
