والواقع أن (الرمز في القرآن) لم يكن موضوعاً عجيباً أو غريباً بتلك الدرجة التي تستأهل التهويل والمبالغة، لكن الغريب فيها أن نشرها وما تداعى عنها من ردود وحوارات جريئة من النيهوم أنجز في ظروف اجتماعية محافظة وتقليدية.. وكأن شيئاً لم يحدث أو يستدعي الانتباه.
(..فالدراسات الدينية لا علاقة لها بالتشريع السماوي، والمرء لا يستطيع أن يقبل إبقاء الباب مغلقاً بحجة الفقهاء وحدهم، فالدين ليس مهنة لأحد. إنه علاقة بين الله وبين إنسان من خلقه تخرج عن اختصاص الفقي. ونحن نملك القرآن. نملك النص السماوي الوحيد الذي وصل إلى العالم كاملاً فإذا استطعنا أن ننقله إليه بأمانة، وإذا لم نفقد إيماننا بأنفسنا، فأنا أتوقع أن نساهم في إيجاد جسر أكثر متانة بين إنسان هذا العصر وبين الله...).
