أحمد بن سليمان بن كمال باشا، شمس الدين: قاض من العلماء بالحديث ورجاله.
تركي الأصل، مستعرب. قال التاجي: قلما يوجد فن من الفنون وليس لابن كمال باشا مصنف فيه. تعلم في أدرنه، وولي قضاءها ثم الإفتاء بالآستانة إلى أن مات. له تصانيف كثيرة، منها (طبقات الفقهاء - خ) و (طبقات المجتهدين - خ) و (مجموعة رسائل - ط) تشتمل على 36 رسالة، ورسالة في (الكلمات العربية - ط) نشرت في المجلد السابع من مجلة المقتبس، و (رسالة في الجبر والقدر - خ) و (إيضاح الإصلاح - خ) في فقه الحنفية، و (رجوع الشيخ إلى صباه - ط) مجون، سيأتي ذكره في ترجمة التيفاشي، و (تاريخ آل عثمان) و (تغيير التنقيح - ط) في أصول الفقه

هذه دراسة وتحقيق قامت حول رسالة في التأصيل اللغوي. والرسالة لابن كمال باشا (ت940هـ)، وقد حدد غرضه من تأليفها، فقال إنها: (مرتبة لتحقيق تعريب الكلمة الأعجمية وتفصيل أقسامه..)، وقد خلص في رسالته إلى وسم أعمال المتقدمين في باب المعربات بالتخليط والوهم. والنتائج المتوقعة لمثل هذه الدراسة أن يسدل الستار على جدوى الدراسات السابقة ابتداءً بجمهرة ابن دريد (ت321هـ) ومعرب الجواليقي (ت540هـ) وانتهاءً بقصد السبيل فيما في كلام العرب من الدخيل لمحمد أمين المحبي (ت1111هـ).
والباحث يحاول أن يضع هذه الدراسة في إطارها الصحيح، ورغم محاولته الدفاع عن قيمة دراسة المتقدمين في باب المعربات، ومحاولته تصحيح ما وصموا به إلا أنه يدعو إلى فتح باب الدرس اللغوي للمعربات دراسة دقيقة تحدد بشكل قاطع الرأي في الألفاظ التي غلب على ظن المتقدمين ادعاء عجمتها من غير دليل.
