هذه "يوميات" البصرية يمكن أن تسمى أيضاً "تنويعات على القوس". وكون هذا الفنان أي "معاذ الألوسي" معمارياً عربياً يضفي على الموضوع مغزى خاصاً، فقد اقترن العرب في أذهان الناس اقتراناً وثيقاً بعمارة الأقواس حتى يتساءل المرء ألم يكن العرب هم الذين اخترعوها. ولما كان "معاذ الألوسي" عراقياً، فإنه يؤكد على أن القوس استعملت لأول مرة بشكل كبير وذي وظيفة بنيوية عند البابليين والآشوريين وهؤلاء هم، حضارياً وتاريخياً، العرب الأوائل الذين هاجروا شمالاً من الجزيرة العربية لكيما يؤسسوا حضارة تلو حضارة في المدن العظيمة التي أنشأوها على ضفاف دجلة والفرات. وهكذا فإن انغماسه في موضوع القوس المعمارية إنما هو ضرب من البحث في دخيلة النفس وتغلغل في أعماق الذاكرة الجماعية-انه ضرب من العودة إلى الجذور.
بالعودة إلى هذه اليوميات البصرية المدرجة في هذا الكتاب نجد أنها يوميات صامتة بلا تعليق، جمعت وصيغت بنمط يماشي المزاج الذي تحكم بها أصلاً. حيث كل تخطيط أو رسم يمثل وقفة معينة. والأمل الآن هو أن تستطيع هذه اليوميات إيصال خلاصة ذاك الصمت المتأصل في هذه الوقفات، وأن تصبح الخلاصة نفسها "وقفة".
ومما تجدر الإشارة إليه هنا أن هذه التخطيطات لم ترتب في تسلسل زمني يخدم تقديم دراسة عن مراحل نشكل أسلوب هذا المهندس المعماري، بل هي اختيرت وقدمت في تسلسل تيصل إما بالموضوعات أو بالمشاريع التي يتراوح تاريخها بين مطلع السبعينات وأواخرها. ولم يكن هذا مسألة اختيار بقدر ما كان لفقدان التخطيطات المبكرة، وخصوصاً وأن هذه هي تخطيطات خام رسمت على ورق عادي وبقيت معرضة للإهمال والضياع خلال مسار تكوين التصميم.
