في مجموعته الشعرية الأولى "خَفَايا قلبْ" يتخذ الشاعر نايف قيس من سيرته الحياتية والكونية، استراتيجية كتابية للتدوين وتطريز النص في كونيته وأنظمته الإشاراتية، فالشاعر بدا متميزاً بقوة التقاطاته الفنية العميقة والتي تنهل من ينابيع المعرفة الكونية والفلسفة الإنسانية في التشكيل والثقافة بصورتها الشمولية. إن تمظهر الأنثى – المعشوقة – في ثيمة النص كرؤية كلية ورؤيا حالمة، هو أبرع اشتغال دينامي للغة التشكيل الشخصية التي برع الشاعر في تأسيس خطابه الإبداعي عليها، وتتراسل هذه المشهدية مع رؤياوية العالم في ضجيجه وهدوئه وسيوله الزمكانية، فالسيمياء الجمالية لاشتغال الشاعر/ الفنان تحيل قارئ النص إلى شخصانية العلاقة التي تربطه بالمرأة وبالعالم معاً وهي التي أعطت المشهد الشعري جمالية راسخة ومختلفة وضاجة بخفايا القلب.
تحت عنوان "لوحةٌ" يقول الشاعر:
أُدركُ أنَّكِ بعيدةٌ عنيِّ آلافَ السنينَ الضوئية / ولكنْ عندما تستيقظين في عينيّ حُلماً
تتشكلينَ بها كلوحةٍ مائية / كما أُدرك أنَّ حَّبكِ لي شبحٌ من الأشباحِ
ولكنْ لماذا أشباحُكِ تظهرُ عندما أكتبُ وتصبحُ كلُّها مرئّية.
تضم المجموعة "خفايا قلب" خمسة وثلاثون قصيدة في الشعر العربي الحديث جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: "الرقصة الأخيرة"، "انتقال الروح"، "راودك الشك"، "إنسان"، "غزل"، تظاهرة"، "جفن وجنون"، "ثورة في فنجان"، "حصاد"، "السوط"، (...) وقصائد أخرى.
