يحيط هذا الكتاب بسيرة وآثار الشيخ الفاضل محمد أبو هلال الكوكباني (ولد سنة 987 بعد الهجرة، في قرية الشعيرة القريبة من راشيا - توفي سنة 1050هـ).
يبدأ الكتاب بمقدمة عن حياته في مسقط رأسه، ثم إقامته في دمشق طلباً للعلم، ونشاطه السياسي والدعوي في عهد الأمير فخر الدين المعنى الثاني الذي كان يسعى إلى التحرر من السلطة العثمانية، "ويقال أن الأمير عرف الشيخ وسهل إقامة المجالس في شويا "كما يغطي الكتاب صفحات من حياة الكوكباني في العهد العثماني بما فيها من مطاردة وإعتقال ومنع للدعوة، لقد كان الشيخ "منارة تهدي المستحبين وشمعة تضيء طريق الصلاح والتقوى أمام أخوته في الدين والدنيا والآخرة" فكانت في تلك الأيام على ما يذكر المؤلف "قاسم بركات": "نهضة دينية قل نظيرها في ما خلا من الأزما وما تلا، ولا غرو فالشيخ الكوكباني يُعتبر من ألمع رجال الدين التوحيديّ بعد السّيد الأمير عبد الله التنوخي...".
من هنا، جاء الإهتمام لجمع هذا الإرث الروحي الساطع، والخصال الشخصية الناطقة بكل تفاصيلها الإنسانية والقيمية في هذا الكتاب وهي ما خلفه الشيخ الفاضل الكوكباني من إرث ديني وشعري طافح بتلك الأنوار الربانية التي غطت تاريخ الموحدين الدّروز.
من أدب الشيخ الفاضل نقرأ: "آه من ثقل الأوزار! آهِ من قِلةِ الإستشعار... آهِ من غضب الجبار... آهِ من قِلةِ المتاب... آهِ من ذهاب الشباب... آه من يوم الحساب... آهِ من عظم الخطأ... آهِ من الزلل... آه من خيبة الأمل...".
