هذا الكتاب باكورة سلسلة مبارَكة مختصّة بكتُب المولد النبوي الشريف، تُصدِرها دارُ الحديث الكتّانية، ضمن عنايتها بطبع ما يمتُ بصلةٍ إلى الجناب المحمَّديّ، من كتب الموالد والشمائل والخصائص والسِّيرة.
قال عن كتابنا هذا مسند الدنيا الإمام محمد عبد الحي الكتاني في رسالته "التآليف المولِدية": عَرْف التعريف بالمولد الشريف: للحافظ أبي الخير ابن الجزَري وهو مختصَرٌ من مولده الكبير، ذكره له جماعةٌ ممن ترجمه كالسَّخاوي في الضَّوء اللامع.
وقد ساق إسنادَه شيخُ الإسلام زكريا الأنصاري في مَشيَخته قائلاً: عَرفُ التعريف في المولد الشريف: أخبرني به الشيخ زينُ الدين أبو النَّعيم رضوان المُستَملي، بسماعه على مؤلِّفه الشيخ شمس الدين محمد ابن الجزري، بالمكان الذي وُلِد فيه صلى الله عليه وسلم بمكة.
