يضم هذا الكتاب دراسة أدبية سعت لتحليل متن رواية "غسان كنفاني" أن سعد عبر تفكيك كل لوحة إلى وحداتها، واستخراج العناصر الحكائية لها، وبالعودة لمادة هذه الرواية نجدها قد رصدت انبثاق فجر المقاومة بتصوير حياة اللاجئين داخل المخيمات، مواقف حياتية كتابية تتعامل مع وقائع مرجعية، بعد أن تم تحويلها إلى بنية لغوية، تندمج بالمجتمع في سبيل مصالحته لا استسلاماً، وإنما بالاندماج عبر مسار تغييره والتمرد عليه، ولهذا تندرج في إطار البحث عن فسحة الحلم. والرواية لا تقتصر على نقل العالم الموجود خارج النص إلى المستوى اللغوي، بل تشمل إدخال عناصرها ضمن علاقات مفهومية دلالية، وقد عبر جورج لوكاتش "إن الرواية هي الشكل القائم على المغامرة، وهي التي تتناسب مع القيمة الخاصة للتبطين. إن محتواها هو حكاية تلك النفس التي تسعى في العالم لتتعلم كيف تعرف ذاتها وتبحث عن المغامرات كامتحان لها، وبذلك الامتحان تظهر قدرتها وتكشف جوهرها الخاص.
المواقف الحياتية في الرواية تكونت من حكاية أساسية (أم سعد) وحكايات أخرى تتوازى معها (حكاية سعد) (أهل المخيم في نهاية الرواية) أو تتعارض معها (حكاية المختار) (حكاية الناطور) (حكاية الأفندي) (حكاية عبد المولى).
هذه الحكايات جعلت المواقف الحياتية لوحات نهضت بالنص إلى رؤية العالم الخارجي من داخل التجربة الجماعية وشكلت وعياً عارياً في مبناها الأساسي.
