حينما تشيع الأشياء تصبر شيئاً مطرداً، وحين يطرد الشيء يصبح من المنيع على العقل أن يكذبه، وحينما يتم الإتجاه نحو التصحيح تصبح الأفكار شواذاً وطرائف قد تخل بالمفهوم الذي ألف واتبع.
وهذا ما ينطبق على موضوعة الزمن التي احتوت عند القدماء ماض ومستقبل وحاضر، وهو تحليل لا يستجيب للعمق المعرفي الذي نناشده الدراسات اللسانية، لذلك فإن هذا الكتاب يحاول أن يعالج إشكالية كبيرة داخل علم الدلالة العربية من خلال الإنتقال بمجال الدراسة من مستوى إدراك اللغة إلى مستوى إدراك الذهن، بإعتبار الأمر يشكل أم التطورات التي عرفها الدرس اللساني العربي، بل إن الأمر شكل ثورة حقيقية عل المسلمات الأدبية التي ظلت تنادي بضرورة إعتبار اللسانيات المجال الذي يفحص اللغة تركيبياً ودلالياً ومعجمياً وصرفياً وصوتياً فقط، الشيء الذي ساهم في بلورة مستوى آخر في دراستها هو المستوى الذهني الذي حول دراسة اللغة من غاية في ذاتها إلى وسيط تقيم من خلاله طرق التفكير البشري وآليات إشتغاله.
إذا كانت الدراسات اللسانية قد قدمت تحليلات كثيرة لقيم آليات إشتغال الإنسان باللغة، فإن البيولوجيا حاولت أن تستفيد من ذلك لفهم طرق إشتغال الذهن البشري من خلال اللغة، وهذا الإنتقال شكل ثورة حقيقية في مجال اللسانيات الإحيائية: أي أن مجال البحث انتقل من مستوى الوصف والتحليل إلى مستوى إدراك الذهن البشري، فكان لزاماً علينا أن نبحث في الزمن بإعتباره موضوعة تجريدية وزئبقية لا يمكن القبض عليها، فكانت النتيجة أن وجدنا أن الإنسان يملك مكانزمات ذاتية تساعده على إدراك المدة الزمنية وفق شبكة دلالية مقسمة على اللحظة والتواتر والورود والقياس الزمني والبضاعة... وهي تداعيات إستعارية منبثقة من كون الكثير من تجاربنا وسلوكاتنا ذات أبعاد إستعارية اكثر منها طبيعية.
لذلك، فإن بناء الأنساق الزمنية ترتبط بكيفية أو بأخرى بالنظام الإستعاري الذي نتيجة اللغة العربية لمتكلميها، الشيء الذي يدفعنا إلى تصور الزمن وكأنه نهر جارف أو وحش كاسر أو مال أو بضاعة أو طبيب... بإعتبارها تصورات تشكل الوجه الخفي للزمن من جهة، وتساعدنا على تشريح الزمن من منطلقات معرفية جديدة لا علاقة لها بالمستقبل أو الحاضر أو الماضي من جهة أخرى.
