قسمنا مؤلف (المعنى والدلالة) بَابَيْن، دعونا أولهما بــ (المفردات والمعرفة)، وثانيهما بــ (التسوية والنفْخة)، اشتمل الجزء الأول على فصلين: أولهما: (الزيتونة الباركة)، وثانيهما: (السراج الوهاج)، تناولنا في الفصل الأول قضايا لغوية أساسية تتعلق بنشأة اللغة في علائقها بوسائل الإدراك الحسية أولاً، وبالملكات الذهنية ثانياً؛ وبإنتقالها من القصيدة إلى الرمزية، ومن البساطة إلى التعقيد، ومن الحسية إلى التجريد ثالثاً... في إطار رؤيا الإتصال / الإنفصال الهندسية، أو المخاتلة الناتجة من عملية رياضية: الإشتقاق / التفاضل / التكامل؛ وهذا يعني أن مفردات المعجم عبارة عن تَدَاخُلاَت واضحة أو مستنبطة؛ وَأَمَّا الفصل الثاني فهو تطبيق لما ورد في الفصل الأول؛ وقد جزأناه إلى حقبتيْن: أسمينا أولاهما بــ (تعميم)، وثانيتهما بــ (تَنْعِيم)، تناولنا في الأولى، بإجمال، مفاهيم اليقطين، والتقطين، والتنسيق؛ لننظر من خلالها إلى اللغة بإعتبارها تشابكاً، وتدخلاً، وتنسيقاً؛ ومن حيث إن المعجم عبارة عن نَصٍّ له معنى، مخففين من آراء ما بَعْد الحداثيينِ الذين نَعَوْا معنى النص، بل رأينا أن له معاني ودلالات نَمْنَحُهَا لَهُ بِحَسَبِ أوْفَاقٍ متفق عليها؛ وأما "تنعيم" فدققنا فيه مفاهيم الرمْزِ، والعُنْوَان، والوَقْفَة والصمت... مازجين بين التحليل اللساني / الموسيقي.
