ما دفعني إلى تأليف هذا الكتاب، أنّ كثيراً من الآباء يحتارون في إنتقاء اسم لمولودهم، قبل ولادته أو بعدها، وقد يبقى المولود بدون تسمية، عدة أيام، نتيجة الحيرة والتردد وإختلاف الرأي بين الأبوين.
وقد يتشبت كلٌّ منهما برأيه، فيكون للمولود اسمان، واحدٌ رسمي يُسجِّل في دوائر النفوس، وآخر يُعْرَفُ به بين الناس!!...
ثم إنَّ الكثرة من الآباء، لا يعرفون معنى الإسم الذي اختاروه لمولودهم، كما أنَّ كثيراً منهم، آباء كانوا أم ابناء، لا يعرفون معاني أسمائهم.
لذلك، أخذتُ على نفسي، مهمة تأليف هذا الكتاب، تسهيلاً للإنتقاء، وجمعاً للأسماء المتداولة.
