نيتشه فيلسوف أعده أقرانه من الفلاسفة كبير فلاسفة جيله، رأى النور سنة 1844 في مدينة روكن من ولاية سكسونيا البروسية، ثم تلقى دراسته في جامعة بال السويسرية حيث صار فيها بعد أستاذاً للفلسفة فيها. إلا أنه استقال سنة 1870 ليلتحق بالجيش الألماني في حرب السبعين. وقد كان أعشى البصر، تنتابه نوبات، ممضة الألم من الصداع يشكل موصول. كما كان جسمه عليلاً كثيراً الأوجاع. ولعل هذا هو الذي ولد فيه نظرة التشاؤم التي انعكست فغدت مركب العنف والأخذ بالقوة...
وخلاصة فلسفته أنه داعية العنف، فلا رحمة للضعيف في عرفه كما يقول "زار" وعلى الأقوياء" الراقون أن يحكموا... ولكن بعد أن يتحللوا من كل أصنام سابقة ظلت تستعبدهم منذ القدم".ومما لا شك فيه أن تفكير نيتشه الشديد قد استهلك حياته قبل أوانها كما أدت المعركة التي خاضها ذد عصره إلى اختلال توازن عقله. لقد أعلن حرباً شعواء في أواخر أيام إنتاجه على الأشخاص والآراء والأبياء من فغنر إلى المسيح وغيرهم.
وبعد انهيار عقله بدت العصبية جلية حتى في ضحكه عن هذا الفيلسوف يتحدث هذا الكتاب من سلسلة "الأعلام من الفلاسفة" فيتطرق إلى نشأته وشبابه، فلسفته ومذهبه، رأيه من التطور والأخلاق وهنا تم استعرض آراء كل من دارون سبنسر ستيفن والكسندر هكسلي في هاتين المسألتين (التطور والأخلاق) وأخيراً تم اختيار مجموعة من النصوص المختارة والمدونة بقلم نيتشه وبثها في خاتمة الكتاب، ومنها نذكر دوحة الجبل، المنذورن بالموت، حشرات المجتمع، العفة، طريق المبدع...
