لقد بين الله عز وجل أن حاجة الناس إلى الرسل وإنزال الكتب السماوية هي بسبب وقوع الإختلاف بين الناس والحكم فيما إختلفوا فيه، وإن المنكرين للحق والجاحدين للنعمة والمفسدين في الأرض هم السبب في تشريع التدافع بين الناس والقتال، لأنهم أبوا إلا أن يفسدوا في الأرض بقتلهم النفوس البريئة المتستضعفة وبمنعهم الأنبياء من الدعوة إلى الحق، لذا كان من العدل أن يأذن الله عز وجل للمؤمن بالدفاع عن إرادته وإختياره سواء بالصبر، أو الجدال بالتي هي أحسن وأن يمنع عن نفسه الضر والعدوان، وإن حق الدفاع عن النفس لا يمنعه أي عقل أو قانون أو دين.
وحذر الله عز وجل المجاهدين من الإعتداء ونهاهم عنه وحرّمه عليهم، لقد تعرض مفهوم الجهاد إلى التشويه والإساءة من المتشددين الذين يدّعون الإسلام فكان لا بد من الحديث عن القوة وفلسفتها في الإسلام والقرآن والسنة النبوية المطهرة.
كما يقدم هذا الكتاب صورة واضحة عن معنى رسالة الإسلام، وفهم حقيقة الإيمان، الذي يعتبر الجهاد حكماً من أحكامه، الذي له ظروفه وشروطه وضوابطه ومقاصده الشرعية، وموقفه من المخالفين له ونوع الخلاف معه إن كان ثقافياً أم إجتماعياً أو سياسياً أم بغياً.
