يهدف هذا الكتاب إلى الانتباه الدقيق لعملية تخزين الأدوية والعوامل التي تؤثر على المواد المخزونة، فالتخزين هو المحافظة على السلعة أو المادة الخام خلال فترة من الزمن فالوظيفة الأساسية للتخزين تشمل استلام وتخزين المواد بأقل قدر من التكاليف مع المحافظة على الأصناف المخزونة من التلف أو الضياع وأسباب التخزين هو عدم التوازن بين وقت الإنتاج والاستهلاك ومحاولة التحقيق التوازن بين العرض والطلب وتخزين بشكل مستديم للحفاظ على مخزونه ثابت من المواد الأولية ثم لحماية الشركة من أخطار التقليدية في أسعار وهذا يؤدى إلى فوائد جمة منها التزام الشركة المنتجة من الوعاء بوعودها والتقليل من تكليف الإنتاج وتكاليف الناتج عن التعطيل الآلات والعمال ثم يشير إلى تصميم وتنظيم المخازن وبيان العوامل التي يجب مراعاتها عند بدء التخطيط لإنشاء المستودعات وذلك معرفة هل هذه المخزونات مستديمة وما هي طبيعتها والكمية المراد تخزينها بالإضافة إلى شروط اللازمة الواجب توفرها في المستودعات ويتناول في الوحدة الثانية التخطيط في إدارة التخزين ومراقبة المخزون ومستويات التخزين والعوامل المحددة لها وسياسات التخزين ونظام الحد الأعلى والحد الأدنى للمخزون وبيان أن من أسباب التخزين ازدياد قيمة المادة الاسمية أو منفعتها الإنتاجية بعد التخزين والتطور الجاهل في عالم التخزين وطرق الإغراء كتقديم الخدمات ومنح الخصومات والظروف الاقتصادية والسياسية المتقلبة في العالم بل داخل القطر الواحد.
