انعكست مأساة سيد الشهداء على نفوس الكثيرين الذين آلمهم هذا المصاب، وتفاعلوا معه بصدق وإحساس فرثوه مستنكرين متعجبين مما وقع له. وقد جند بعض الشعراء أنفسهم وحبسوا ملكتهم على رثائه والقول فيه، ومن هؤلاء الشعراء الخطيب الشاعر الملا "عطية بن علي بن عبد الرسول البحراني الجمري" مؤلف هذا الديوان. وكان سريع البديهة حاضر القافية، يسرق الدمعة ويحيي الوقعة في وأواخر قافية وأحلاها ويستعير أفضل الألفاظ لأحسن المعاني.
وقد بزغ نجمة منذ نعومة أظفاره واستغل المنبر الحسيني والمواسم المهمة في أنشطة حضارية فعالة وعمل على انتقاد الوضع العام والمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر. ولم يكن عطاء الشاعر مقصور على الدارج من الشعر بل تعداه إلى الشعر الفصيح.
وهذا الكتاب الذي بين يدي القارئ من جمع وحفظ تلميذ الشاعر الخطيب الملا محمد علي الناصري الذي لم يأل جهداً ولم يدخر وسعاً في سبيل إعداده والتعليق عليه، وقد عمد معدا هذا الديوان إلى جمع ستة أجزاء من شعر الشاعر الدارج في رثاء أهل البيت بعد أن قاما بتقويم الأخطاء والهفوات الكثيرة.
