يتفق الملك والملكة على تزويج ابنتهم الوحيدة للأمير الذي سيزور القصر قريباً، ولإتمام هذا الزواج تقترح الملكة على أن تقوم الوصيفة الجميلة بدور الأميرة العروس وذلك لأن الوصيفة جميلة أما الأمير الحقيقية فبشعة وهذا ما أبعد عنها طالبي الزواج. وهذا ما حدث فعلاً فالوصيفة قابلت الأمير المزعوم أيضاً بدوره إذا كان الأمير قد اتفق مع خادمه أن يقوم هذا الأخير بدور الأمير لأنه أيضاً لا يتمتع بجمال، وعلى أثر المقابلة أعجبت الوصيفة بالخادم وطلب يدها للزواج ولكن ماذا سيحدث للأميرة الحقيقية والأمير الحقيقي المتخفيان بلسان الخدم؟
هذا ما ترويه هذه المسرحية الفكاهية "زواج أميرة" والتي اتخذت من حكمة امرأة عجوز محوراً للأحداث وهذه الحكمة تقول: "حيثما يكون الجهل نعمة، فمن الغباء أن تكوني حكيمة".
