الذنب يعني المخالفة، فكل عمل من الأعمال التي تخالف الأوامر الإلهية يعد في نظر الإسلام ذنباً، فحتى لو كان الذنب هيناً فهو عظيم وكبير وذلك لمخالفة الأوامر الربانية وعدم إطاعة الله سبحانه وتعالى. قال الرسول الأكرم صلى الله عليه وسلم لأبي ذر: لا تنظر إلى صغر الخطيئة ولكن أنظر إلى من عصيته".
والكتاب الماثل بين يدينا يشير إلى موضوع الذنب بشكل تفصيلي حيث يتحدث عن: معنى الذنب وأنواعه، أقسام الذنب، أرضية الذنب التربوية والثقافية، الأجواء العائلية والذنب، عوامل فساد المحيط، الأرضية الاجتماعية والنفسية والسياسية للذنب، الأعذار المختلفة للذنب، حدود الذنب، العوامل التي تمنع وتسيطر على الذنب، الوقاية وعلاج الذنب وكيفية التصدي للمذنب، موقف الإسلام من الذنب، الآثار السلبية التي يخلفها الذنب، التوبة والتطهير من الذنب.
كما ويرد الكتاب في بعض فصوله على بعض الأسئلة الهامة منها نذكر على سبيل المثال: ما هو الإنسان وما علاقته بالذنب؟ هل الكذب ذنب من الذنوب الكبيرة، ما هي أول الذنوب التي تؤدي لمعصية الله؟...
وأخيراً تجدر الإشارة إلى أن هذا الكتاب هو عبارة عن مجموعة من الدروس التي ألقاها الشيخ "محسن قراءتي" في تلفزيون الجمهورية الإسلامية على مدى ثلاثين درساً في شهر رمضان سنة 1362هـ ونتيجة لوقعها في أذن المتلقي موقع الإعجاب فقد، اعتنى بتهذيبها وتنظيمها حتى أصبحت تشكل مادة الكتاب الذي بين يدينا.
