هذا الكتاب يكشف خفايا وحقائق الحقبة الحرجة في تاريخ لبنان المعاصر، وقد جاء هذا الكتاب في أربعة أبواب تفرعت إلى عدة فصول تناولت المواضيع التالية: الصراعات الإقليمية والدولية وأحداث عامة في لبنان، من التفرد الرئاسي إلى دولة المؤسسات: التطوير والتغيير ضمن الشرعية، مؤتمرات القمة العربية في مواجهة الخطر على الأمن القومي العربي، الملك فيصل وهاجسه لتحرير الأراضي العربية المحتلة والقدس، الصراعات بين السلطة اللبنانية وبين المقاومة الفلسطينية، أحداث الأردن عام 1970 حولت لبنان من دولة مساندة إلى دولة مواجهة، صائب سلام شكل حكومة بالليل... وتبخرت في أوائل ساعات الصباح، قطار السلام يسير نحو مصلحة إسرائيل، وأحداث هامة على الساحة اللبنانية.
كذلك خطة الولايات المتحدة الأميركية لإحلال سلام التدريجي، الأحداث في لبنان تترابط في ما يجري في المنطقة، أول حكومة عسكرية في لبنان منذ الإستقلال، حكومة الإنقاذ... وهيئة الحوار الوطني أو "حوار الطرشان"، محاولات الإنقاذ وعواصف أمام مهمة مستحيلة، أسرار مذكرة الحوار الوطني.
