ما زال العود يتصدر الآلات الموسيقية الوترية العربية، بالرغم من بعض المحاولات للتخفيف من الاعتماد عليه وإبرازه كآلة موسيقية تحتل المرتبة الأولى. والكتاب الذي نقلب صفحاته هو الرابع في سلسلة تمارين موسيقية لآلة العود لرئيس القسم الشرقي في المعهد الموسيقي الوطني اللبناني، جورج فرح الذي عرف من خلاله عن تاريخ البشارف والسماعيات و... وعن مدى فوائدها القيمة، ومن ثم قدم معلومات عن تاريخ آلة العود، وعرف بدور كل اصبع من اصابع اليد وأرقامها أثناء تنقلاتها بالعزف على العود ثم قدم لبعض السلالم الموسيقية للنغمات: مقام سيقاه، مقام حسيني، مقام عشاق مصري، مقام حجاز، مقام كردي... ثم أتبع ذلك بتمارين وأربيجات صغيرة على بعض الأنغام العربية.
