رابعة، إحدى معتقلات الرأي في السودان، تروي مأساتها داخل أقبية السجن وخارجها. في الداخل سجن له جدران أربعة تُمارَس فيه أبشع أنواع التعذيب، وفي الخارج وطنّ حوّلوه إلى سجن كبير، تُكَمُّ فيه الأفواه، ويتسلَّط فيه العسكر ورجال الدين، ويحوّلون الحياة داخل حدود الوطن إلى مستحيل.
تتطرّق هذه الرواية إلى موضوع غياب الحرية في مجتمعاتنا العربية، وتفشّي القمع، وتسلّط الضوء على تواطؤ ثالوث الأنظمة العربية المقدّس: رجال الدين والعسكر والساسة، على قمع المواطن. وهي تُعمل مبضعَها في تشريح جسد المجتمع السوداني، وتحاول أن تجد سبب تحوله عن إعمال لغة الحوار، وإبدالها بلغة القتل. وهي في ذلك تركّز على السبب ولا تغفل النتيجة: تقتل أجهزة النظام والد رابعة بتهمة التآمر على الدولة، ثم تعتقل رابعة بتهمة التحريض على النظام وممارسة "الكفر" من خلال لوحاتها. تحاول أن تغتصب أنوثتها. وضمن هذا التسلسل من الرعب، تعرض لنا هذه الرواية كيفية انتقال المجتمع السوداني، رويداً رويداً، إلى مجتمع قائم على لغة القتل سبيلاً وحيداً للحياة.
