يستند هذا الكتاب في مادته على قوله تعالى: "إن قارون كان من قوم موسى فبقي عليهم وآتينا من الكنوز ما إن مفاتحه لتنوء بالعصبة أولي القوة إذ قال له قومه لا تفرح إن الله لا يحب الفرحين، وابتغ فيما آتاك الله الدار الاخرة، ولا تنس نصيبك من الدنيا وأحسن كما أحسن الله إليك ..." إلى آخر الآيات 76 – 82 من سورة القصص.
من هنا أراد السيد جعفر مرتضى العاملي تناول "ظاهرة القارونية" والقول أن ظاهرة القارونية ليست وقفاً على قارون المذكور في القرآن وحده، وإنما تمتد عبر الزمان والمكان لتشمل كل من يسير على خطى قارون "نبي إسرائيل" المذكور في القرآن، ولتطال بشكل او بآخر كل من يتشبه بقارون، أو يرتدي زيه ويقلد اسلوبه، سواء في اكتناز الذهب والفضة والأموال والمتاع أو في تعامله الحقوقي مع الناس.
وفي هذا السياق يسلط المؤلف الضوء على دور المال في حياة الإنسان والفهم الخاطىء لدى بعض الناس لهذا الدور في حياتهم ويبدأ "من نقطة إعطاء المال قيمة لا يستحقها وذلك عندما يرى أن للمال قيمة ذات ونفعية. فالقيمة له بما هو مال، لا بما هو أداة من أدوات بناء صرح الحياة وفي ذلك غشارة من الله سبحانه وتعالى حول الفهم الخاطىء للمال في كتابه العزيز عندما قال: "فأما الإنسان إذا ما ابتلاه ربه فأكرمه ونعمه فيقول ربي أكرمنِ (...)" إلى آخر الآية ويعلّق المؤلف مخاطباً اصحاب المال أن المال "لا هو قادر على دفع ضرر، ولا على حل مشكل، إلا بالطريقة التي رسمها الله سبحانه، وعلى أساس النظرة القرآنية الصحيحة".
ظاهرة القارونية من أين؟! إلى أين؟!" دراسة توخى المؤلف فيها المقاصد القرآنية، وهو من أهم الدراسات التي تلفت النظر إلى هذه الظاهرة وتعالجها وفقاً للمنظور القرآني.
