كوركيس بن حنّا عواد (1326 هـ - 1413 هـ / 1908 - 1992م) من الشخصيات البغدادية المعروفة في العراق، وهو من عائلة آل عواد أحد العوائل المسيحية في الموصل، واستوطنوا بغداد، وكان أخوه ميخائيل عواد يعمل سكرتيرا لمكتب وزير المعارف في العهد الملكي، وأشتهر كوركيس عواد بالعمل الدؤوب وسعة الإطلاع، إضافة إلى التأليف لكثير من المقالات والكتب بما تجود به قريحته من الأفكار يضاف إلى تخلقه بالأخلاق الحسنة والصفات الرفيعة.

هذا الكتاب "ماضي الأكراد وحاضرهم في المصادر العربية القديمة والحديثة" هو "ثبت" مستفيض،حاول كوركيس عواد / عضو المجمع العلمي العراقي (الأسبق) أن يجمع فيه، ما كتب عن "الكرد" و "كردستان" باللغة العربية، قديماً وحديثاً؛ سواء أكان هذا الذي كُتب، مؤلفاً قائماً بذاته، أو مقالة نُشرت في مجلة أو جريدة، وسواءً أكان هذا المنشور قد كُتب أصلاً باللغة العربية، أو نقل إليها من لغة أخرى.
رُتبت هذه المواد جميعاً في الكتاب، وفقاً للسياقة الهجائية لعناوينها، وختم الثبت بفهرس هجائي، استوعب أسماء أعلام الكتّاب والناس الواردة في تضاعيفه، ووُضع بإزاء كل مادة، رقماً تسلسلياً، وتبدأ هذه الأرقام بالرقم (1) وتنتهي بالرقم (909). وبهذا المعنى نحن أمام (909) مصدر تمت الإشارة إليهم عن جميع ما كُتب عن الكُرد وكوردستان باللغة العربية. وقد تم للمؤلف الإشارة في كل واحدة منها إلى عنوان المطبوع (كتاب أو مقالة) وتاريخ النشر، ومصدر النشر (دار النشر، أو الجريدة) والصفحات التي وردت فيها المعلومات. وهو جهد بحثي لافت بذل فيه كوركيس عواد قصارى جهده وعلمه في سبيل الإحاطة بما كُتب في هذا الموضوع، يستحق الثناء والشكر.
