يبحث هذا الكتاب في تشريع (التقية) أو تشريع الضرورة من خلال تقديمه دراسة تعريفية في مفهوم التقية في الفكر الإسلامي لإزالة الغموض الذي اكتنف هذه المفردة الفكرية، وتوضيح الرؤية والفهم العلمي في مدرسة أئمة أهل البيت –مدرسة الشيعة الإمامية- لمفهوم التقيه. كل ذلك يأتي بهدف وحدة صف المسلمين والإيمان بما أنزل.
وفي طريقة إلى إثبات تشريع التقية يبحث مؤلف الكتاب في المفاهيم العقيدية التي اتفق المسلمون جميعاً على ورودها في القرآن الكريم والسنَة المطهرة في مفهوم التقية، كما يتبين ذلك من قوله تعالى: [إلا أن تتقوا منهم تقاة] وقوله: [إلا من أكره وقلبه مطمئن بالإيمان] وقوله: [يكتم إيمانه]. أيضاً يتخذ المؤلف من سيرة الرسول ومواقفه من عمَار ابن ياسر مدخلاً إلى شرح مفهوم التقية والتزام أئمة أهل البيت وفقهائهم بمبدأ التقية في المجال السياسي والفكري في مسيرتهم الإيمانية، وعلى هذا يعتبر المؤلف أن "... التقية ليست من إجتهاد الفكر الشيعي، إنما هي نص إسلامي نطق به القرآن، وأقره الرسول (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ومارسه الصحابة وأوضحه المفسرون من مختلف الاتجاهات والآراء...", وللقارئ المسلم الحكم في نهاية الأمر.
