هذا المعجم أشبه بكشاف اصطلاحات الفنون للتهانوي، من حيث ترتيب المصطلحات على ما هي عليها من الصيغة، فلم أعن بالجذور، أعني أن نحو: "الاستطالة" و"الترقيق" و"المدرجة" الخ ترد في: الهمزة والتاء، والميم على التوالي، ولو عنينا بالجذر لوضعنا الاستطالة في الطاء بدل الهمزة والترقيق في الراء بدل التاء والمدرجة في الدال بدل الميم، ولكننا استبعدنا هذا النهج، لأنه يتعذر في بعض الأحيان على الطالب الاهتداء إلى المصطلح.
ومما تجدر الإشارة إليه أن المؤلف في معظم مفردات المعجم الأصل اللغوي في صدر تفسيرها لننبه على الأصل الذي اشتقت منه، وإنما فعل ذلك ليضفي على هذا العمل سمة المعجمية.
