أغلب الناس، إذا مرض أحدهم، ثم ازداد المرض عليه قليلاً، فأول ما يخشاه أن يقضي مرضه إلى موته، فيبدأ بالتفكير فيه، وكلما ازداد ثقل المرض عليه ازداده تفكيره فيه وفي النتائج المترتبة عليه: كيف أمضى حياته؟ ما هي الذنوب التي ارتكبها؟ وهل سيغفرها الله له؟ ما هي حقوق الله والمعصومين والناس عليه التي لم يف بها؟ فينطلق ليوصي بوصاياه! ويعد عدته للموت، الكفن، العزاء، الأبناء... الخ وكلما شعر بوجدانه دنو الموت منه كانت تصرفاته أكثر صفاءً مع الله وأنقى سريرة مع الناس وأرقى أدباً وتعاملاً مع أهل بيته!
أما إذا عادت حياته إلى مسارها الطبيعي فإنه قلما يفكر في الموت، بل قد يتعاطى مع الناس بصورة سلبية وكأنه أمن وقوعه عليه!
جميع تلك الصور وغيرها تدفع نحو طرح تساؤلات كثيرة عن حدث الموت، ما هو؟ كيف يقع؟ ولماذا يحصل؟ ومتى وأين يحدث؟ ولماذا أخفى الله سبحانه وتعالى أسراره؟ كيف يجب النظر إليه؟ وما هي أسس النظرة السليمة؟ وكيف يتوازن الإنسان بين استمرار عجلة الحياة وتوقع وقوع الموت؟
هذا ما يحاول هذا الكتاب أن يقدم إجابات مباشرة أو غير مباشرة على تلك التساؤلات وغيرها، عبر شخصية الإمام الحسين في مضمار الموت، فاستشهاد الحسين في كربلاء يمثل انعطافة تاريخية من إمام معصوم، بذل فيها دمه وأهله قرابين لله تعالى.
لذلك فإن هذا الكتاب ليس بحثاً علمياً للإجابة على تلك التساؤلات، ولكنها محاولة لمعرفة نظرة الحسين وأهل بيته وأصحابه للموت، وكيف تعاملوا معه؟ وكيف تذوقوه؟ من خلال ملحمة كربلاء وأحداثها ونتائجها.
