لقد جاء هذا الكتاب في وقت من أخطر الأوقات التي تمر بها الأمة العربية, وتواجه فيه صنفين من الأعداء في الداخل والخارج. فالخطر الخارجي الذي تمثل العولمة بعض مظاهره, إن أخطر ما في هذا الغزو- رغم خطورته اقتصادياً- أنه يوجه سهامه الى ثقافتنا وتاريخنا وحضارتنا, ويبعث نحونا ببعض هذه السهام المسمومة, في حرب نفسية مروعة. أما العدو الداخلي الذي ارتبط بعضه, من خلال مصالحه بذلك العدو الخارجي, وقام بين الطرفين جسر وثيق لم يعد خافياً على أحد, فإن بعضه الآخر, بسبب ضعفه الثقافي, وعدم قدرته على متابعة أحداث العالم. كما يوضح هذا الكتاب أن ألوان الحضارة العربية الزاهرة بتعددها وتلاوينها, ثم عودتها الى الالتقاء في لون واحد أصيل, أشبهت قوس قزح. وكما كانت هذه الحضارة أصيلة راسخة الجذور, فإنها في الجانب الآخر بدت إنسانية شاملة, جمعت عبقريات عظيمة, من مختلف أرجاء هذا العالم الفسيح الذي ينطبق عليه الوصف الذي أطلق عليه بأنه عربي إسلامي.
