ولد عام 1942. تخرج في فرنسا حاملاً الدكتوراه. عضو جمعية النقد الأدبي. فيصل دراج يستحق ما هو أفضل من الكلمات، هو ناقد كبير و هو في ملمح من عالمه المتعدد أحد المغتربين الكبار في هذا العالم، هو اغتراب له ملابسات و أسباب استثنائية و ستظل كذلك في تاريخ الإنسانية كلها. هو ككل مواطن فلسطيني يكابد من العناء ما يفوق التصور، يستيقظ مبكرا كل يوم و يعمل كثيرا و يحلم بأوطان أخرى مغايرة خارج هذا العالم، إذ هو أحد الممتلكين النادرين لجمع الاستثنائيات التي يزاوجها، فلديه رؤية الفيلسوف والناقد المتأني، موهبته لم تمنح سوى لقلة. دراج هو صاحب مشروع كبير و غني و متتناغم لم يقنع في نقده بمتابعة الأعمال أو يكرس لهالات مجد زائفة لظواهر عابرة لدية نظرة استكشافية، قادر من خلالها أن يميز ما ينتمي للإبداع الإنساني الحقيقي و ما ينهل من المنابع السطحية. إن الأمل و الفجيعة قادا فيصل ليستكشف و يبلور موقفه المدافع عن الوطن في منأى عن أشكال الاستبداد، بعيدا عن الزيف متعدد الأقنعة، في كتاباته استنهض بالمعرفة العميقة ليصل بالثقافة الفلسطينية للعالم الإنساني كله بعيدا عن النظريات المستمدة من سياقات أخرى. مشروعه النقدي بمثابة ثمرة نبتت في مناخ مناوئ في ظل عواصف، لذا كانت ثمرة عطية، فهو تمثيل خاص للمثقف الكبير و الحر. اهتم فيصل بعلاقة الثقافة و السياسة التي لم تبعد عن علاقة كل هذا بفلسطين، وانتهى إلى أن سؤال الثقافة لا ينخلع عن سؤال الدولة.

هذا الكتاب بجملة أسئلة مفاهيمية ونظرية ومنهجية جرّاء تعمق المؤلّف بموضوع بحثه، وهو نراه يصوغ الكثير من أجوبته في نص انتقادي حيناً، واستقرائي حيناً آخر، مما يجعل قراءة النص حالة مميّزة من المتعة والفائدة؛ فمن الأسئلة الرئيسية الجامعة بين التأريخ والرصد لاتجاهات العمل الروائي وفلسفته، قول المؤلف: إذا كان صعود الرواية قد ارتبط، نظرياً، بصعود القومية، فما هو وضع القومية العربية في شرط تاريخي يفصح عن هامشية الجنس الأدبي المنتمي إليها؟.
وفي استبطان معرفي انتقادي يرى أن الرواية العربية، انطوت في الحالات كلها، على ذاكرة مكتوبة واسعة، وأخذ الخطاب الروائي الذي يوحدّ بين الواقعي والمتخيل ينتج معرفة موضوعية ترفض واقع الاغتراب وتقترح مجتمعاً جديداً.
