أنور عبد الملك (23 أكتوبر 1924 – 15 يونيو 2012) كان عالمًا سياسيًا مصري فرنسي من أصل قبطي. لقد كان عروبيًا وماركسي.
حصل أنور عبد الملك على درجة البكالوريوس في الفلسفة عام 1954 من جامعة عين شمس قبل الدراسة للحصول على الدكتوراه في جامعة السوربون. انضم بعد ذلك إلى المركز الوطني الفرنسي للبحث العلمي، وأصبح رئيسًا للبحوث هناك في عام 1970.

كانت مصر وما تزال مركزاً للإبداع والحضارة والريادة في شتى المجالات، وقد أريد لهذا الجزء المهم من العالم العربي أن يبقى أسير ظروفه الاقتصادية والاجتماعية لكي لا يأخذ دوره الطبيعي في قيادة الأمة والعبور بها إلى عصر التحرر والتقدم. ومنذ محمد علي باشا وحتى جمال عبد الناصر توالت المحاولات لإقامة المشروع الحضاري العظيم وبناء الدولة العصرية الحديثة والقوية إلا أن الموجة المضادة كانت تعمل ومنذ البدايات على عرقلة هذه لمشروع والوقوف في سبيل تحقيقه.
وللبحث عن عوامل هذه النهضة ومفاتيحها حاول مؤلف هذا الكتاب (وهو بالصل أطروحة للدكتوراه) أن يهتدي إلى مفاتيح التمايز بين المدارس التكوينية للفكر والعمل في قلب نهضة مصر الوطنية وقد بدأ من الداخل، ومن الذات الوطنية المصرية لأنه يعتقد أن دراسة أية ظاهرة يجب أن تتم في إطارها الموضوعي التاريخي الواقعين.
وهو إذ يتناول بالبحث الخصائص العامة للتطور الاقتصادي والاجتماعي يرى أن مصر تتمتع منذ أيام محمد علي باقتصاد وطني بدلاً من الاقتصاد المحلي وقد قام الاقتصاد الاكتفائي المستقل الذي أراده محمد علي بخدمة أهداف مؤسسي مصر الحديثة. كما رأى الاندماج الإجباري لمصر في الأسواق الاقتصادية العالمية في عهد إسماعيل وبوجه خاص منذ الاحتلال البريطاني خلق اقتصاداً رأسمالياً في البلاد.
وفي معرض تحديده لدور محمد علي باشا في النهضة المصرية يرى أن إرادة هذا الرجل قد قلبت الحسابات إذ سعى إلى إقامة البنية الأساسية الوطنية الثقافية لمصر الحديثة والتي تمثل عنصراً رئيساً في النهضة المصرية. كما أن مصر في عهده هي الوحيدة بين سائر ولايات السلطنة العثمانية التي قدمت للمثقفين والمفكرين والكتاب والصحفيين المضطهدين من الباب العالي ملاذاً آمناً يلجأون إليه.
