يبحث هذا الكتاب فيما يسميه أسطورة تكوّن الثقافة الإسرائيلية، ويخلص إلى إستنتاجات واقعية حول إنعدام المقومات الصلبة والأسس الطبيعية المتعارف عليها في ثقافات الشعوب فيما جرى تقديمه على أنه ثقافة إسرائيلية تجاهر بإطلاقيتها في تحديد الإنتماء والهوية، بينما هي خليط هش وتهويمات مفتعلة تعوزها الأصالة والرفعة والرسوخ، أشبه بكثبان رملية جرداء سرعان ما هبت عليها رياح الغزو الإسرائيلي للبنان فأصابتها في هشاشتها، وخلقت وعياً مأزوماً يحاول إستطلاع ثقافة الآخر: الفلسطيني.
فضلاً عن هذا، فإن الكتاب يثير موضوعات أخرى كالصراع بين الشرق والغرب في الثقافة الإسرائيلية، وهي مواضيع لا تزال كسواها من الموضوعات التي تشغل الكتابة الإسرائيلية وكتابها، غير مطروقة عربياً، وغير مستقراة.
