قبل ثلاثة عشر سنة نشر وهدان عويس كتابه الأول: «العودة إلى الهدأة»، ساطراً فـي صفحاته الثلاثمائة سيرته الذاتية، متناولاً تجاربه الحياتية ومتأملاً فـي محصولها. سطرَ البدايات، مستعيداً الكثير من التفاصيل ذات البُعد الإنساني الشخصي، المهني والنقابي وإشكالاته، وكذلك مجموعة تجارب انخراطه بالعمل السياسي/ الحزبي ــ بما يُطلَق عليه "العمل النضالي."
يبدو لمن قرأ الكتاب أنّ صاحبه كان مطمئناً لِمْا جنى على المستوى الشخصي وراضياً، لكنه غير مكتفٍ، أو بالأحرى ليس قانعاً مقتنعاً بما آلت إليه أحوال الأمة. حين كتب كتابه ذاك، كان ثمة هدوء وسَكْينة تشيع فـي روح وهدان عويس، ثمةسلام وسلاسة تأمُل جعلته يتمكن من إنجاز ما كتبه تظلله شجرة «الهدأة». كان عدم الرضا بمآلات الأمة، بالمعيار النسبي، محتملاً فـي وعيه، وربما يكون مبعث الاحتمال مراهنته على أن المستقبل سيكون أفضل. وانتظر، لكن الفجيعة توالت نُذُرها سنة بعد سنة!
تراكضت الفجائع ضاربة العراق بالغزو الأميركي وتفتيته بإشاعة الطائفية البغيضة، ثم حروبه الداخلية على نحو فوضوي مدمِّر. لكن بصيص انفراج لاحَ فـي أفق تونس، ضمن ما سُمي بـ«الربيع العربي»، فتعلقت بمتوالياته الآمال حين انتقل إلى مصر، فاليمن، فليبيا، فسوريا! غير أن الأمر سرعان ما تكشّف عن سرقة الانتفاضات الشعبية واختطافها من قِبَل القوى الانتهازية الداخلية، وتجيير جيشان الميادين لصالح الدول الكبرى ومصالحها؛ وبذلك تحوّل الربيع إلى حرائق مسلحة أكلت الأخضر واليابس بكافة المعاني.
يشكّل كتاب «الهروب من الهدأة»، بناءً على كل ما سبق، شهادة صاحبه الصادقة على حياة عربية تنوس وتأفُل، بتراجيدية قصوى. شهادة قام بتسجيلها اليوم لتقرأها غداً أجيال آتية، سوف تطرح علينا سؤالها عمّا فعلناه نحن، لتستحق هي مصيراً يتلبسه الغموض!
