في عمله هذا، يتناول "طالب ياسر" موضوع نهضة الحسين في الأمة بوصفها قيمة وحركة تاريخية هي الأكثر مثالية وديناميكية وتوتراً في تاريخ الإسلام على مستوى الوعي السياسي والثقافي.
وفي طريقه إلى تلمس هذه الحركة يخضع المؤلف بحثه لأدوات معرفية يمكن من خلالها كشف ماهية هذه الحركة بمبرراتها وأسبابها ونتائجها الكلية.
قسّم العمل إلى ثلاثة أقسام، في القسم الأول عرض المؤلف لطبيعة المنهج الذي اتبعه في دراسة الموضوع والظروف التاريخية التي رافقت معالم البعثة النبوية وأثرها على المجتمع العربي وسمات الدولة وبنيتها السياسية والدينية. أما القسم الثاني فخصص للمحددات الأبستمولوجية أو المباني التي تداخلت مع حركة ونمو المجتمع الإسلامي الناشىء وتطوره إلى حالة الدولة ومدى تأثر النظام السياسي في الإسلام بمبان وأصول تركت آثارها التاريخية عليه. أما القسم الثالث فقد طرح من خلاله المؤلف شخصية الحسين، موقعه من الرسول، الرسالة، الأمة ومرجعيته المعرفية والقيمية، وملابسات نهضته ودور النظام السياسي في إيصال الظروف التأريخية إلى مرحلة كربلاء.
