شكلت الانتخابات النيابية اللبنانية صيف العام 2000 والتي شارك فيها ما يمثل 43.8% من الناخبين في لبنان، كانتخابات العام 1996، مادة استفتائية معبرة عن الاتجاهات السياسية اللبنانية، غير أنها تمايزت عنها ميدانياً بفعل قانون الانتخابات الذي جرت على أساسه، والذي عدل بصورة أساسية غالبية الدوائر الانتخابية من خلال التقسيمات الجغرافية التي اعتمدها.
يهدف هذا الجزء من الموسوعة اللإنتخابية النيابية والمتخصص بالإنتخابات التي جرت صيف 2000 الدائرة الثالثة محافظة بيروت ليس فقط إلى عرض النتائج التي خلصت إليها العملية الانتخابية في جداول مبسطة تساعد في تسهيل قراءتها، إنما تهدف أيضاً ومن خلال الدراسة التحليلية الأولية التي تضمنتها إلى تحديد دقيق لتوزيع القوى السياسية في الدائرة والقضاء والبلدة، وإلى إبراز اتجاهات تصويت الناخبين الموزعين حسب القلم أو البلدة أو القضاء أو الدائرة، وبالتالي حسب انتماءاتهم المذهبية وتوزعهم بحسب الجنس، وبصورة أوضح وأدق في تحديد الاتجاهات السياسية على المستويين الجغرافي والمذهبي.
كما تبرز الدراسة وبشكل لافت تأثيرات البعدين الجغرافي والطائفي-المذهبي على نتائج الانتخابات، وهي تحدد إضافة إلى ذلك مكامن القوة والضعف عند كل مرشح.
