يقع هذا البحث في خمسة فصول، كان الفصل الأول (النحو وعلم المعاني) قراءة جديدة لتأريخ صلة النحو بالمعاني، استطاعت أن تتبيّن، وبرؤية واضحة، واقع هذه الصلة، ومدى عمقها وقوتها، وما أصابها من ضعف، وما شهدته من محاولات لتأكيدها وتمتينها، ثم الانفصام الذي أصابها.
وفي الفصل الثاني (أسلوب الأمر) تناول معنى (الأمر) في أصل اللغة، وتعريفه في اصطلاح النحويين والبلاغيين، ودلالته على الاستعلاء، والوجوب، والزمن، والمقدار. ثم درس الصيغ التي تؤدي معنى الأمر في العربية، وهي: الأمر بصيغة (افعل)، والأمر بصيغة (ليفعل)، والأمر بصيغة المصدر، والأمر بما أسماه النحاة والبلاغيون (أسماء الأفعال)، والأمر بصيغة الخبر. ثم تعرف على المعاني التي تخرج اليها صيغة الأمر، وعلى من سبق اليها من النحويين أو البلاغيين.
وخُصص الفصل الثالث (أسلوب النداء) لدراسة معنى (النداء) في أصل اللغة، وتعريفه في اصطلاح النحاة والبلاغيين، وأدواته، وما تختص به كل واحدة منها، والمنادى وعامل النصب فيه، والمنادى المضاف الى ياء المتكلم، والمنادى المعرّف بأل، وحذف أداة النداء، وحذف المنادى، والترخيم، ثم وقف على المعاني التي يخرج اليها النداء، وعلى من سبق اليها.
وجعلنا الفصل الرابع (أسلوب الاستفهام) دراسة للاستفهام في أصل اللغة وفي اصطلاح النحويين والبلاغيين، وتعرّف على الزمن الذي يدل عليه، والمستفهم عنه في الكلام، وأدوات الاستفهام وما تختص به كل وحدة منها، والمعاني التي يخرج اليها الاستفهام ومن سبق اليها.
وفي الفصل الخامس (أساليب الطلب الأخرى) تناول أساليب (النهي) و (العرض والتحضيض) و (التمني) و (الترجي)، فدرس معانيها في أصل اللغة، وحدودها في اصطلاح النحاة والبلاغيين، وأدواتها وما يتصل بها من المسائل، ثم المعاني التي تخرج اليها ومن سبق اليها. وجعل للبحث خاتمة سجّل فيها أهم النتائج التي توصّلت اليها.
