يحتوي هذا الكتاب على ثلاثة تحديثات:
التحديث الأول: تبويب شعر المتنبي الذي يبوّب لأول مرة.
وكل باب يحمل أجمل ما قيل في هذا المجال.
باب الحكم: الأول والأهم، يحتوي على جميع حِكَم المتنبي البالغة 200 حكمة وقد حافظت على الموضوع، وسياقه ومناسبته، إذ قسّمت الحِكَم إلى نوعين: المهم (خط أبيض مشار إليه بنجمة) والأهم (داكن).
أبواب: الغزل، المدح، الهجاء، الرثاء، الوصف، رأيه في الحياة والموت وفلسفة الحياة عند المتنبي.
ثم درست شخصيته من خلال شعره، وكذلك مراحل حياته.
التحديث الثاني: شرح الأبيات على سطر البيت نفسه، مما يسهّل فهمها دون عناء، مع تبسيط الشرح ليكون بمتناول القارئ.
التحديث الثالث: سبب موت المتنبي، لأوّل مرّة، يُسَلّط الضوء على مقتل المتنبي وحَلّ لغز كيف تمكن أعداؤه، رغم كثرة أسفاره عبر أراض شاسعة، أن يجدوه في مكان صحراوي غير محمي ويقتلوه.
المتنبي شاعر الحِكَم (وَجَدتُ له أكثر من 200 محكمة)، قررت وضع أمثاله وحكمه مع شرحها في متناول الأجيال الطالعة، لكنني وجدت أن له في الوصف والغزل والرثاء والمدح والهجاء... أجمل ما قيل لهذه المناسبات، فعدتُ وقررتُ تبويبَ شعره لينتقي منه القارئ الباب الذي يحب (حِكَم، وصف، غزل، مدح، هجاء، رثاء...) فبدأتُ رحلة الغوص في أعماق الديوان لأستخرِجَ دُرَرَهُ وأضعها في متناول الشباب دون أن يتكلّفوا عناء البحث عنها سنين.
ووجدتُ أن المتنبي كان صادقاً شفّافاً يشرح حالتهُ النفسيّة في كل قصيدة، فخصّصتُ باباً لشرح شخصيته ثم أبواباً لآرائه (بالنساء، بالموت، بالحياة...) ثم باباً لشرح مراحل حياته، فكان هذا الكتاب.
