عزيز العظمة هو كاتب ومفكر وباحث سوري ولد في دمشق عام 1947 م ، حاصل على شهادة الدكتوراه في العلوم الإسلامية من جامعة أكسفورد بعد أن تخرج منها، وكذلك درس في توبنغن في ألمانيا.
درّس في جامعات بيروت والكويت ومنذ 1985م عمل كبروفيسور للعلوم الإسلامية في جامعة الشارقة.

Book Description
يبين الكتاب أن تكون مجموعة متنوعة من الأنماط الإسلامية على وجه التخصيص لتعبير السلطة قد تطلب عدداً من القرون، وإنها لم تكن بأي حال من الأحوال فريدة من نوعها، وأن التعبيرات الإسلامية للسلطة، وحتى تأكيدات قداستها، لم تكن بالضرورة من مهمة الخطاب الديني على وجه التحديد، أو محصورة بالمؤسسات لكهنوتية السنية أو الشيعية.
إن الخطاب السياسي الإسلامي وجماليات السلطة الممارسة تاريخياً في أنظمة الحكم الإسلامية تصوران هنا على أنهما متنوعان ومتمايزان وعلى درجة عالية من التغيرية. ارتباطاً بذلك، يتبين أن تعبيرات السلطة الإسلامية تمتلك مجالاً للإنتاج والتداول أعرض بكثير من فئة علماء الدين الذين تنسب إليهم هذه التعبيرات على نحو عادي في الدراسات المعترف بها، وأن آراء هؤلاء الأفراد من ثم لم يتكن على الدوام أساساً ولا معيارية.
يتفحص الكتاب أيضاً الشروط التاريخية والنصية الملموسة للخطابات الإسلامية والتعبيرات الأخرى للسلطة، وهو جزئياً نتيجة لضيق شديد من الحالة الراهنة لمعرفة وتحليل التصورات السياسية الإسلامية، وحالة معرفة الشروط التاريخية والنظرية والخطابية لهذه التصورات.
