إن علم علل الحديث من أجّل العلوم التي لم تتهيأ معرفتها إلا لنزر يسير من أهل العلم؛ وقد صُنفت فيه مصنفات عديدة، من أهمها "كتاب العلل" لأبي محمد عبدالرحن ابن أبي حاتم الرازي (ت327هـ)، الذي جمع فيه كلام أبيه وأبي زُرعة في تعليل الأحاديث، مع زيادة كلام بعض الأئمة الآخرين -على قلته- وربما أدلى هو بدلوه في الكلام في هذه العلل أحيانًا. وقد من الله علينا بالفراغ من تحقيق هذا الكتاب الذي نضعه بين يدي القارئ.
