تحت عنوان "إرادات وقيود" يقدم الباحث جلال شريم دراسة أنثروبولوجية في معتقل الخيام، وهو مركز اعتقال أنشأته القوات الإسرائيلية في أواخر العام 1984م، تحوّل فيما بعد إلى معتقل وحيد في المنطقة المحتلة من جنوبي لبنان في العام 1985 حتى سقوطه وتحرير المعتقلين منه في 23-6-2000م.
وهذه الدراسة بمثابة شهادة على مرحلة مهمة من تاريخ الصراع العربي واللبناني تحديداً مع اسرائيل، ولأن المؤلف واحداً من الأسرى المحررين من معتقل الخيام في العام 1989م، أراد تجسيد تجربة الإعتقال في بحث علمي أكاديمي ينهج في كتابته وسائل البحث العلمي الموضوعي، من حيث النظرية والتطبيق والتقنيات المستخدمة في مجال اختصاصه في العلوم الإجتماعية.
وعليه، فإن فكرة البحث تدور - كما يشير المؤلف - حول الوسائل التي يلجأ إليها الأسرى كي يتكيفوا داخل المعتقل، سعياً نحو تأمين حاجاتهم الجسدية والنفسية، وهي نقاط الضعف التي يحاول السجّانون استغلالها للضغط عليهم، كما دلت هذه الدراسة ... التي يمكن اعتبارها تأسيس علمي لدراسة هذا المعتقل (الخيام) الذي أنشأته القوات الإسرائيلية، خلال فترة احتلالها لجنوب لبنان.
في ضوء ما سبق تم توزيع مادة الكتاب على ثلاثة عناوين رئيسية (مباحث) هي: المبحث الأول: بناء ذاكرة المكان، ويشتمل على عرض تاريخي لنشأة المعتقل ومقابلات مع شهود عيان ومعتقلين في مراحل مختلفة، المبحث الثاني: وجاء بعنوان: قيود تطوق الإرادات، ويسلّط الضوء على أسلوب الإعتقال والدخول إلى المعتقل وفترة التحقيق وصنوف التعذيب. أما المبحث الثالث فجاء بعنوان: إرادات تقاوم القيود. ويستعرض أموراً مثل الطعام والشراب والنظافة وما يتعلق بها لدى المعتقل وكيفية تمضية الوقت والمعرفة به، وطرق التواصل ... وصولاً إلى عملية الخروج من معتقل الخيام.
