ليس غريباً أن يندفع الباحثون منذ عقود إلى دراسة التاريخ الأندلسي، والاغتراف من معينه، ولكن ما حظي به من دراسات، لا يزال ضئيلاً، أمام شموخ التراث الأندلسي وسعته. ففي بداية القرن الماضي، صب الباحثون اهتماماتهم على نشر بحوث علمية جادّة، فشكل ذلك خطوة مهمة، ولكنها ظلّت غير مكتملة؛ لأنها تناولت في معظمها عصر الخلافة الأموية، وقليل منها تناول عصر ملوك الطوائف، وتطرق إلى ماضي بني زيري البربر في غرناطة.
وفي هذا الإطار واستكمالاً لهذه الدراسات تأتي الدراسة في هذا الكتاب وهي تكتسب أهميتها وريادتها من تركيزها على عصر هو من أخصب الفترات وأغناها في تاريخ الأندلس وبالتحديد على عصر بني زيري البربر الذين قدموا من بلاد المغرب إلى الأندلس في أواخر القرن الرابع الهجري/العاشر الميلادي، وتمكنوا بعد وقت قصير لا يتجاوز عشرين عاماً من مكوثهم في الأندلس، من بناء مدينة غرناطة وإقامة حكم لهم فيها وفي نواحيها امتدَّ زهاء ثمانين حولاً كانت غنية بالأحداث الهامة التي شكل تاريخ غرناطة الحضاري: السياسي والاجتماعي والاقتصادي.
وقد قسمت الباحثة دراستها بموجب ذلك إلى ثلاثة أبواب: باب جغرافي، وباب تاريخي وباب حضاري. الباب الأول تحدثت في فصوله الثلاثة عن تعمير غرناطة وتسميتها وموقعها وأوصافها وفي مرجها وجبالها وأنهارها وأعمالها من مدن وقرى. وتحدثت في الباب الثاني وفي فصوله الأربعة عن غرناطة في عهد زاوي بن زيري وعن شؤون غرناطة في عهد حبوس بن ماكسن بن زيري راسمة من ثمّ صورة واضحة لغرناطة في عهد باديس بن حبوس وغرناطة في عهد عبد الله بن بلقين آخر أعداء بني زيري. أما الباب الثالث فقد كان عبارة عن دراسة اجتماعية واقتصادية وعمرانية وثقافية لمملكة غرناطة في عهد بني زيري مجتمعين.
