في هذا الكتاب استقراء لواقع الألعاب الرياضية قديماً وحديثاً- لا سيما المعاصرة- وممارسات الناس لها- لا سيما المسلمين- وما يتعلق بذلك من وسائل الممارسة وصورها، وما يرتبط بالألعاب الرياضية من قوانين وأهداف ومسائل مختلفة.
كما يحتوي الكتاب على استقراء للنصوص والقواعد والأحكام الشرعية وآراء الفقهاء والمقارنة بينها، وذلك لبيان الأحكام والضوابط المتعلقة بالألعاب الرياضية وما يرتبط بها من مسائل ضمن مباحث ومطالب ومسائل منتظمة واضحة. وزعت على فصول الكتاب الثلاثة والتي جاءت معالجة لما يلي من الموضوعات الفصل الأول: احتوى على بيان لمعنى الألعاب الرياضية، المصطلحات ذات الصلة، وتاريخ الألعاب الرياضية، وأهميتها، أما الفصل الثاني: فاحتوى على بيان لمشروعية الألعاب الرياضية وحكم العوض في الألعاب الرياضية ومدى اشتراط المحلل فيها. وفي الفصل الثالث: تم استعرض المسائل والضوابط الشرعية للألعاب الرياضية كمسألة الوقت، والضوابط الأخلاقية، والضوابط المتعلقة بالمرأة، وبصفات الناس، وأموالهم، وتدخل الدولة في اللعاب الرياضية.
