هذا الكتاب، هو الخامس من سلسلة "تساؤلات الشباب"، يتضمن بحث موضوعين طرح في الأصل كل منهما أمام جمهور شبابي، وهما يتعلقان بهاجسين أساسيين من هواجش الشباب، ألا وهما العلاقة مع الوالدين ضمن الأسرة من جهة، تلك العلاقة التي كثيراً ما يشوبها التأزم، والعلاقة بين الجنسين في زمن المرهقة من جهة أخرى، وما قد ينشأ عنها من حب يتساءل الشباب حول نوعيته وقيمته. والجدير بالذكر أن الموضوع الثاني كان قد اقترح بحثه الشباب أنفسهم.
وقد حاول الباحث "كوستي بندلي" أن يسلط على الموضوعين أضواء يستلهمها من معطيات علم النفس الحديث من جهة، ومن خبرته في العمل بين الشباب من ناحية أخرى، كما أنه استوحى في معالجة الموضوع الأول ملاحظات خطية سجلها حوله عدد من الشبان كانوا قد بلغوا آنذاك نهاية المرحلة الثانوية من دراستهم.
