سعى المؤلف في هذا الكتاب إلى تعريف القارئ بهذا المنهج، وأثره في النحو العربي، وملامح هذه الدراسة تقوم على: الوصف، والتحليل، والمقارنة، وذلك بوصف وتحليل الممارسات التداولية في التراث العربي أولاً، ثم وصف المنظور التداولي وتحليه لدى أصحاب هذا المنهج من الغربيين، ومقارنته بمنهج دعاة التداولية من العرب المحدثين.
وقد انتظمت الدراسة في ثلاثة فصول مسبوقة بمقدمة وتمهيد، وأعقبتها بخاتمة وقائمة للمصادر والمراجع.
