فإن الدارس لعلوم العربية والنحو خاصة يقف على مجموعة ضخمة من المصطلحات التي استعان بها الدرس اللغوي والنحوي لمختلف موضوعاته وتفرعاته، ولعل الأحكام النحوية، تحتل جزءاً واسعاً من هذه المصطلحات التي أرادت هذه الدراسة، استيفاءها بالبحث والتحليل ويكون في ذلك إرضاء للطموح المرجو لدراسة، تسد فراغاً في المكتبة النحوية، فتناولت الدراسة الأحكام النحوية من جهتيها: النوعية والكميّة، ويُقصد بالنوعية: القوي، والضعيف، والجيد، والحسن، والرديء، والواجب، والممنوع، وغيرها.
وأما الكميّة فتعني: الكثير، والمطرد، والغالب، والنادر، وأشباه ذلك، ويعد التوكل على الله تعالى جعل للموضوع سقف زمني مناسب ينتهي بنهاية القرن الرابع الهجري؛ لأنه يُختتم بعالم كبير يحق له أن يكون سقفا لمثل هذه الدراسة وهو ابن جني (392هـ)، لأن من جاء بعده لا يعدو أن يكون ناقلاً أو شرحاً لآراء سابقيه، ولأن الغاية من هذه الدراسة أن تعطي صورة مكتملة الأجزاء، متماسكة البناء، غير مشتتة بآراء متشابهة ومجترة، ولا يعني هذا أن تغمط حق اللاحقين ولكن النظرة الشاملة، للنحو العربي تبرز حقيقة إكتمال صورته في القرون الأولى وتمامها على أحسن شكل.
