"الشيطان فوق التلال" وهي الرواية الثانية من ثلاثية روائية تحمل عنوان (ثلاثية الصيف الجميل: رواية الصيف الجميل 1940، ورواية الشيطان فوق التلال 1948، ورواية بين نساء وحيدات 1949) كلّ منها تُشكل رواية منفصلة، وكُتبت بشكل مستقل، دون نيّةٍ لكتابة ثلاثية روائية، لكن ارتباطها من حيث الموضوعة التي تتناول (الانتقال من المراهقة للنضج) جعلت الناشر الأصلي وقتها، يقوم بجمعها ونشرها معاً على شكل ثلاثية، بالاتفاق مع الكاتب بالطبع، حصلت الثلاثية على جائزة "ستريغا"، أعرق وأرقى الجوائز الأدبية الإيطالية.
ترجمت المتوسط الرواية الأولى (الصيف الجميل) وصدرت عام 2017، وجاري العمل الآن على ترجمة الرواية الثالثة، إضافة للكثير من أعمال هذا الروائي العلامة في الأدب الإيطالي والعالمي.
وتحكي "الشيطان فوق التلال" أيضاً، قصَّةَ صيف، صيفِ طُلَّابٍ مُراهقين تسمَرُّ جلودُهم تحت شمس تورينو المُلتهبة، حيثُ يستحمُّون عراةً ويثرثرون عن مُتعِ الصَّيد ومغازلةِ الفتيات الجميلات، فوق تلِّ الگريبّو. في حين يسعى ﭘولي، الشاب المُترف، للبحثِ عن معنى لحياته، بإدمانِ الكحول وتعاطي المخدّرات في فيلته على قمَّةِ التلّ، كما لو أنَّه يملأ فراغاً هائلاً في روحه. المَللُ، الخيانةُ، المشاعر المضطربةُ، كلُّها تبرزُ كقرون للشَّيطان في حياةٍ شبه أسطورية، عندما تتقاطعُ مصائرُ الجميع، في صيفٍ تُلهبُ فيه الشمسُ الغرائزَ، وتفوحُ منهُ رائحةُ الدَّم والموت.
الرواية التي حوَّلها المخرج الإيطالي ڤيتوريو كوتافاڤي إلى فيلم، بالعنوان ذاتهِ، وعُرض في مهرجان "كان" العام 1985؛ هي اللَّوحة الثانية من ثلاثيةِ باڤيزِه، والتي رسمها الكاتبُ الكبير بحسٍّ عالٍ ودِقَّةٍ مُتناهيةٍ، قبل أن يضعَ حدّاً لحياته.
