إن مهمة المعلم ليست بالمهمة السهلة اليسيرة، كغيرها من المهام الأخرى ذلك أن المعلم يتعامل مع، بني البشر، وهم متفاوتون في بيئاتهم، وفي مواهبهم، وكذلك في قدراتهم العقلية، وظروفهم الإجتماعية والإقتصادية والأسرية ولكل منهم شخصيته المستقلة، وإهتماماته الخاصة، وعلى المعلم أن يوائم بين هذه الفوارق جميعها من جهة، وأن ييسر لكل منهم ما يلزمه للإنطلاق وبأقصى سرعته وبما يتمشى مع مواهبه وقدراته.
فهذا التفاوت ليس من السهل التعامل معه، ذلك أنه موجود في الصف الواحد، وفي الصفوف الأخرى، وفي مستوى المادة التعليمة الواحدة، وفي مستوى المواد التعليمية المختلفة، بل وفي كل حصة صفية، الأمر الذي يزيد من صعوبة مهمة المعلم فهو يتعامل مع الجسد ومع الروح ومع الجمادات من أبنية وأجهزة ومختبرات، وغيرها من المرافق التعليمية.
وهذه أمور كلها تتطلب من المعلم القدرة على التكيف بما يتناسب وإختلاف الظروف التي يوجد فيها، والتي تفرض نفسها عليه في عمله، وبما يتفق وتوقعاتنا من مردود نأمل الحصول عليه نتيجة جهوده وجهود طلبته.
ومع أن هناك عوامل عديدة تؤثر على فاعلية المعلّم، وفاعلية العملية التعليمية، إلا أن المعلم هو أهم هذه العوامل جميعاً، وهو الذي يمسك بيده زمام الأمور، وبيده مفتاح الحل لعمل تربوي ناجح، يتغلب فيه على ما قد يعترض طريقه من عقبات ومن صعوبات، فهو المعلم وهو المربي وهو القائد.
ومع أن أساليب التعليم تختلف من حال إلى حال، ومن ظرف إلى آخر، ومن مادة تعليمية إلى مادة أخرى، ومن معلم إلى آخر، إلا أن هذا الكتاب وبما فيه من معلومات تتناول عملية التعلم والتعليم والتي قد يكون أكثرها مألوفاً عند العديدين منهم إلا أن هناك أملاً أن يفيدوا منها بإعتبار ما فيها الخط العريض لمسار العملية التربوية، وبخاصة لمن كان حديث العهد منهم بالتعليم، وبمثابة خلفية تربوية راجعة للقدامى منهم تصلح أن تكون قاعدة ومنطلقاً لأفكار جديدة قد تطرأ على أذهانهم، وأساليب جديدة قد يقعون عليها نتيجة خبراتهم، ويتكيفون معها، كل منهم بما يتلاءم ووضعه الخاص وظروفه الخاصة.
