في مسار الحياة الصعب لبطل الرواية يتقلب (أبو اسكندر) بين العمل والنضال، بين الحرب والسلم، حاملاً مثله العليا وباحثاً عن العدالة والتحرر، ليس لنفسه بل لكل المظلومين في بلده، ولكن لا يكتمل مشواره بغير علاقة الحب الرائعة التي جمعته ببطلة الرواية (عايدة) والتي كسرت كل الأعراف والتقاليد الإجتماعية والمذهبية البالية، وقررت أولاً الإرتباط به، وثانياً الإلتحاق به في العمل الفدائي.
إنها رواية رائعة تستحق القراءة، حيث قدم الكاتب بالإضافة إلى الحبكة الدرامية أحداثاً تاريخية حقيقية في مسيرة التحرر العربي سواء من المستعمر الخارجي، أو من الظلم والتخلف المستشري في داخل المجتمع.
